Trail Info
February 27, 2010 - Just got a report that there is about 18-20 inches of snow in Brookline now - 5-6 of it fresh from overnight. Townshend Acres has a bit more. Club members are heading out today to clear trees and open up road crossings, so things are looking pretty good for some riding soon. I'm sure the groomers will be out soon also. The quote is: "There certainly is enough snow to work with!" YES! The snow dance must have worked!
January 25, 2010 - Rode "the loop" on Brookline trails on Saturday and there was a variety of trail conditions. Some areas were VERY rough and rocky while the higher elevations (Crane Mt., etc.) were very decent. Unfortunately, the rain last night and today will do a job on the fairly good base we had there. Let's just hope for more snow - like the 18 inches we got LAST Feb. 3rd!! Below are some pictures of the 150+ foot land bridge at Parker's Landing and the smaller bridge on Murdock Drive over Emma Brook on Route 35.

January 19, 2010 - Disappointing amount of snow fell in Brookline during this last storm - only about 4-5 inches, I'm told, but it's bound to improve things a little. Sure wish we'd have snow like Island Pond - I understand they have 24+ inches on the ground! Wow!
January 17, 2010 - Brief trip to Brookline yesterday. Looks like about 6-7 inches of snow on the ground there, but well worn in spots on the trails and I'm sure they are very rough. Let's hope for some snow tonight and tomorrow and then some cold weather!
January 7, 2010 - While we haven't been to Brookline in the past two weeks, I'm trying to keep in touch with those "in the know" up there and from what I hear, there IS riding on the trails with some grooming being done. Higher elevations (like Crane Mt. area) are in better shape and some lower areas are rough in spots with a definite need for more snow. But the bottom line is there is riding and work being done to keep things as nice as possible at this point. Cold temperatures are helping with the watery spots and improving those greatly; now we just need a nice 8-10 inch dump of snow!

October, 2009 - Below is a picture of the 100+ foot land bridge being constructed at Parker's Landing. This will make correct the wet area in the lower section much easier to travel on. As you can see, it isn't done yet, so anyone who wants to help, go ahead out there - the materials are all there.

August, 2009 - The powerlines from Vernon to Ludlow are being widened and here are a few shots of some of the work in our area. Since these pictures were taken more gravel access roads were finished as well as grass seed and hay to prevent erosion on parts of the powerlines. We'll be working on landowner permission to use some of this for our trails this year. Sounds like the beginning of a great season!

March 15, 2009 - Trails are deteriorating fast with water bars open and completely bare in spots. This might be it for the season.....
February 2, 2009 - Reports are that the trails are GREAT! Please remember that our Radar Run is this Saturday, Feb. 7th. See details and directions in the Events page.
January 28, 2009 - The Brookline trails are in awesome shape! We rode to Putney Mt. Hawk Watch, all around the local trails and over Route 35 into Townshend. Trails are smooth, wide, and for the most part, just great. We hear that another 10 inches of snow fell in this last storm, so that should extend our riding season a bit. Hats off to all the groomers out there, lending a hand making this happen. Have fun and be careful.
January 22, 2009 - Just got a report that the trails are being groomed often and are in great shape. Water spots are freezing over and generally nice riding out there. Have fun!
January 12, 2009 - Brookline got an addition 10-12 inches of fresh snow on Saturday night and the trails are getting better and better! The water spots are disappearing, trails are widening and smoothing over with the grooming, and with the cold temperatures predicted, should set up nicely for a great start to our season. Remember to bring clippers or chain saw when out riding to help clean up the trails. Have a great time, but ride safely! And.....THINK MORE SNOW!
December 22, 2008 - Word is that Brookline got about 21 inches of snow this past weekend with both back-to-back storms. No word on the trails being open but sleds have been heard! Remember - when you venture out, bring along a chain saw as no doubt there'll be limbs and downed trees to clear up. Be safe and have fun!
October 12, 2008 - Pictures of Ward's bridge replacement. Thanks to all who helped - great job!!

October 7, 2008 - Work parties are being planned. If you want more information, contact one of the Trail Coordinators listed in the Newsletter to offer your help. Thanks in advance!
February 20, 2008 - Just got back from Brookline and rode all yesterday afternoon. The trails are super in spots, but the recent rains have done a job on the water holes. We were barely able to groom although we did do some. We spent a good deal of our time getting unstuck from water bars and getting our sleds upright again! Our recommendation is to stay OFF the trails until conditions get a lot better - more snow and cold weather for an extended period is desperatively needed. It really is unsafe at this point. Sooooo....think snow and cold temperatures!
February 17, 2008 - Sorry for the lack of information. Will try and do better from now on. We were in Brookline for the Steak Cookout and got a bit of riding in. There are about 18 inches of hard crusted snow on the trails. We rode over from Murdock Drive up to the Airport and out to Peaked Mount Road where we turned around. The trails were groomed and pretty good although still some water holes due to the recent warm weather and rain. We hear that the trail to Putney Mountain and out to the Hawk Watch is in great shape. Volunteers have been out grooming and filling in wet areas and it's about as good as it's going to get under these conditions which isn't all that bad. We really need some COLD weather to hang around a bit and some fresh snow to groom, but those would be ideal conditions in a perfect world!!! Until that happens, get out there and enjoy the snow we have - just take it easy, watch for the water bars and stay to the right. Have fun!
December 31, 2007 - Eight inches of new snow fell in Brookline last night and the trails are in good shape. Lots of people out riding so go out and have a great time but ride safely. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!
December 19, 2007 - Got word tonight that the trail to Putney Mountain is broken, all the way to the Hawk Watch. There is about 2 feet of snow there and more snow predicted for tonight. This is sounding better and better, huh???
December 17, 2007 - Just heard that there is 10-12 inches of new snow in Brookline and that some of the trails are broken, some are not. Remember to bring along the old chain saw when you go to ride so you can help clear the trails. Keep me posted!!!
December 16, 2007 - I got a report today that Brookline has about 20 inches of snow on the ground!! Sounds like the season is beginning with a definite BANG. Please remember to take a chain saw with you when you first ride out so you can help clear any downed trees or large limbs on the trails. This will be a huge help. We will be having trail/bridge work parties coming up and will notify you all via email and here about that. By the way....if you want to be on our emailing list for trail and club information, just let me know at NativeNant@sbcglobal.net and I'll add you to our list. Be sure to put "Brookline Snowmobile Club" in the subject so I don't just delete it as spam.
December 3, 2007 - We have the most wonderful members! I just put out an email asking for a snow report and promptly got one back saying that as of 8:30 a.m. there were 8 inches of snow on the top of Whitney Hill. If this keeps up we could get an awesome base for some great riding on the 16th when the trails officially open. Keep those reports coming and I'll keep updating this page! Later on......More reports of 8 inches of snow which packs nicely, so sounds good if it'll stay on the ground and not melt. Remember that the trails don't officially open until Dec. 16th but if you got out to clear trails beforehand, do bring along a chainsaw as there are sure to be trees and limbs down from all the wind we've had in recent weeks. Great start for this season!!!
October 28, 2007 - Well, we are about 6 weeks away from the trails opening, so let's hope for lots more snow than last year! When we have work parties scheduled, we will let you know via this page, so come back and check from time to time.
