Despite last weeks unprecented warm-up, the trails are holding up nicely . Once the cold weather came back the trails set-up nicely (Unfortunately that includes some track rutting in places where it was ridden on during the warm spell). The South Facing slopes of the Powerline are just starting to show some bare ground. A good 6-8 inch snowfall is sorely needed to help out the grooming effort. With the base that’s out there, barring another massive warm-up or a rain event we should be riding for a while yet.

Just a reminder

The Annual Fred Robinson Steak Cookout is this Saturday (2/26) with a Rain Date of Sunday(2/27) at Noon, Osgood’s Field, Hill Rd, Brookline, Vermont. $12 buys you a Steak with all the fixin’s (Bring your own eating utensils). All proceeds benefit the Fred Robinson Scholarship Fund at Leland & Gray Union High School.

Upcoming Ride-in Cookout, West River Snogoers

The West River Snogoers extend an invitation to join them for a Ride-In Cookout on Sunday March 6th (Raindate Sunday March 13) at VASA’s Ober Hill Picnic Area (Off of Corridor 35) in Townshend at Noon . Bring your own items to grill and a beverage. Several grills will be going and a warming fire. Plan to pack out what you bring in.

The Picnic Area is accessed by VASA Trail 9 or 10 at the intersection with the Rt 35 Corridor Trail about 2/3 of the way between Ober Hill Rd and the 3 Corners junction with the VAST Groomed Trails when your heading North.

Please Call Kay or Bob Wistrom @ 802-365-4778 if you need any further information.

HOWEVER, the trail from the Airport down to crossing Route 35 up from Grace Cottage Hospital is very bad. They managed to make it across, but could not make it back on their return trip. They had to deal with broken and tipped machines and he would NOT recommend that anyone try to go that route until some major work is done on it. Although I’m not completely familiar with the area, he describes it as the trail from highway 35 to Harmony Hill. So beware if you are in the area! Once they got beyond that point in Townshend, he reports the trails were very good.

More snow happening in Brookline today and the weatherman is saying a BIG storm on Tuesday, but not sure how far north it’ll go. Will continue to try and keep you posted. Thanks again to all the members who are my eyes and ears in Brookline! Keep the reports coming….
